Moisture content equals Efficient Fire

In today’s modern wood burning fireplaces, stoves and inserts the moisture content or humidity level of the wood in extremely imperative. Maximum content needs to be 20% or less. The amount of heat produced is between 20% and 25% (just 5% difference) is approx. 20% heat. This is important for the overall efficiency of the appliance. It is important not just for the heat distributed to the home but for the heat needed for proper draft/draw. Draft and draw is what takes the products of combustion (smoke) out of the home. Wet wood is also one of the leading causes of soot and creosote buildup in the chimney. Soot and creosote can cause health and safety concerns. It causes smoke in house issues, or dangerous chimney fires putting your family at risk. Don’t risk it purchase and use a moisture meter to verify the humidity level of the wood you burn.
